Dawngate

Game Style: Free to play MOBA
Available Platforms: Windows
Developing Studio: Waystone / EA Games

Dawngate is a fast-paced free to play action packed MOBA that allows players to choose from various “Shapers”; fantasy champions locked in an endless battle. With currently 25 different characters to choose from the game developers have put a different twist to their game in so far as characters are completely separate from the types of roles that are typically filled within a MOBA game battle and any character can step into any role.

Players will still be extremely familiar with the style of gameplay found in Dawngate, sticking to the traditional base fighting elements, pushing lanes, fighting through waves of enemy minions and knocking down enemy towers, all of which culminates in destroying the enemy base though in Dawngate players will have to kill an enemy Guardian boss to claim victory. As well as the classic features there are a few additional ones to further add to the games uniqueness such as the six Spirit Wells found in the jungles that grant teams valuable resources. Here each team starts with two wells and after 10 minutes they can start to fight over the others to try and capture them from each other giving an exciting second area objective that can help seal victory in the game.

Players can also choose to go after the Parasite, a deadly neutral mob that can be found at the heart of the jungle who, if killed, grants resources and buffs two its killers. The Parasite comes in three variations which it evolves into at different stages of the game, becoming progressively more difficult to defeat but also yielding far greater rewards.

The game is primarily a 2 lane 5 versus 5 team game players are able to choose any of the 25 characters, each of which have their own specific stats, abilities and attacks to suit a variety of play styles. However the key to the game that separates it from other MOBAs is that characters are not tied to a specific role and a player’s role is chosen at the beginning of each game, which in turn grant them specific boosts and bonuses for active within that role and therefore helping the team.

The main roles come in 4 variations: the Gladiator who is primarily used as a lane minion farmer, the Hunter used to head into the jungles and kill of camps or try to take the Spirit Wells (classic jungler), the Tactician who harasses lanes and supports their companions and the Predator who focuses on tracking down the enemy players to take them out. The buff each player gets helps them perform their role better, granting them extra damage among other things, but as well as this they gain extra “vim” when performing actions attribute it to their role (such as a Hunter killing jungle monsters or a Gladiator killing minions), which in turn encourages them to stick to their designated role.
